Kongsberg Discovery
∞ Build the electronics for one of the world’s most advanced robotic hull cleaners at Kongsberg Discovery
Have you designed or built a circuit board before, and would you like to learn embedded programming? We are looking for someone who wants to help further develop one of the world’s most advanced robotic cleaners, just under water.
Loop Academy is now looking for candidates for a specialised development programme built in collaboration with Kongsberg Discovery.
We are not primarily looking for finished embedded developers. We are looking for you who have a strong interest in electronics, circuit boards, components and hardware, and who want to build on that profile with embedded programming at Loop Academy.
The goal is that after three months of specialised training, you can contribute directly to the electronics inside Kongsberg Discovery’s autonomous underwater robots for ship hull maintenance.
The solution consists of an underwater robot and a docking station installed on board the ship. The robots move across the hull and remove fouling before it reaches a level that affects the spread of invasive species, fuel consumption and emissions.
The systems are already installed on vessels all over the world, from smaller cargo ships to some of the largest container ships in the world.
Behind the seemingly simple task of cleaning a ship’s hull lies a complex interplay of electronics, sensors, communication, autonomy, mechanics and software. The technology is developed by a cross-disciplinary team working on everything from circuit boards and embedded systems to robotics, camera solutions and autonomous operations.
Kongsberg Discovery has strong teams in software, robotics and autonomy. What they now want to strengthen further is electronics.
We are looking for people who want to be close to product development and enjoy following the whole journey from idea to finished solution. No work experience is required, but we would like you to have worked with and/or built circuit boards before.
Tasks may include electronics design and schematics, design and development of circuit boards (PCB), embedded systems and microcontrollers, sensor integration and communication, testing, verification and debugging, prototyping and hardware development, production follow-up and industrialisation, and further development of existing products and solutions.
You will work closely with software developers, robotics engineers and system developers, but with a clear focus on electronics and hardware.
You are about to complete, or have recently completed, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in for example Electronic Systems Design, electronics, embedded systems, electrical engineering, mechatronics, cybernetics with a strong electronics profile or other relevant technology fields.
Personal projects count too. If you have built speakers, drones, robots, IoT solutions or your own circuit boards in your spare time, we would love to hear more about it.
The development programme lasts three months, during which we teach you embedded programming so you can contribute at every stage of the project. After the training you go straight into an assignment at Kongsberg Discovery, where you become their own circuit board developer and designer, while also supporting other parts of the project.
Permanent employment and salary from day one. Programme start: 10 August 2026. Assignment start: 31 October 2026. Location: Horten. A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree is required.
If you thrive when you get to build, test, debug and understand how technology works all the way down to component level, this is the place for you.
